Incidents & Hazards

Rudy the Bad Actor as Boiler-Room Assistant #12Incident ReportDropped a rotary phone on his toes. Tripped into the papier-mâché volcano.

Rudy plays "Boiler-Room Assistant #12" in a red morph suit and clip-on horns. He drops a 15-pound rotary phone on his toes, snaps his plastic pitchfork and stumbles backward into a pit of papier-mâché lava.

The 15-pound rotary phone was real. The props department had spent the whole budget on the papier-mâché lava.

Notes from the Set

Director's Note“Rudy complained the red body paint stained his skin. He looked faintly pink for his next three features.”

Trivia

  • Rudy's red morph suit shrunk under the hot studio lights, causing his clip-on plastic horns to repeatedly snap off and fly into the orchestra pit.
  • The Call Center Devils were instructed to yell random text fragments from real 1950s appliance warranties into their props to create a chaotic background hum.
  • The papier-mâché lava pit used industrial wallpaper paste which fermented over the weekend, creating a smell so foul that AIDA had to use actual smelling salts to revive the crew.
  • Jennie saved Rudy from the lava pit using a hook, but intentional line slack caused him to bump into a prop iron boiler casing twice during the ascent.
  • The Data Queen’s Exorcism Scroll was just a local Montreal telephone directory unrolled dramatically across the lens.
